The Story
Taylor River Lodge sits in Almont, Colorado, halfway between Gunnison and Crested Butte, where a collection of rustic log cabins lines the canyon alongside the Taylor River. The property opened in 2016 inside a building that was once a general store serving the region's fly-fishing community, and the renovation kept that history intact — D-log cabin construction, cribbage boards, curated bookshelves, and fishing gear throughout. It's run by Eleven Experience, the hospitality group behind bespoke lodges in Chile, Iceland, France, New Zealand, and beyond.
This shoot captures the lodge across seasons, including a stay during a snowstorm that turned the property into something closer to a mountain hideaway than a fishing camp — alongside the rock climbing wall, archery range, bathhouse, and the resident chef's all-inclusive meals that round out the experience. As a lodge and hospitality photographer, Taylor River is a study in rustic luxury: unfussy on the surface, considered in every detail underneath.
